Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina and the county seat of Wake County. Named after Sir Walter Raleigh, the town was chosen as the new state capital in 1788 and became incorporated in 1792. It is the second largest city in the state, with a population of approximately 475,000 and a total metropolitan statistical area population of around 1.4 million.
Raleigh is home to numerous universities and research institutions – including NC State University, Meredith University, William Peace University and Shaw University - and is part of the Research Triangle, along with neighboring Durham and Chapel Hill.
Raleigh has a vibrant downtown, James Beard Award-winning dining and numerous museums. There is a wonderful nightlife scene downtown and along Glenwood South. The park system is extremely impressive, with over 100 miles of paved greenways and opportunities for kayaking the Neuse River. Raleigh is conveniently located to North Carolina beaches (2-1/2 hours) and the mountains (3 hours). The towns of Cary, Morrisville, Apex, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Knightdale, and Wake Forest are some of Raleigh’s most popular satellite towns and suburbs.

Hayes Barton – The heart of old Raleigh. Prestigious Hayes Barton is named after the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh.
Five Points – Named for the highly desirable cluster of neighborhoods in and around the Five Points intersection located inside the beltline. Largely comprised of craftsmen style homes and bungalows dating from the 1920’s.
Boylan Heights – Historic Boylan Heights dates to the early 20th century and is a National Historic Trust landmark. Just minutes to downtown, the neighborhood is comprised largely of Victorian, Queen Anne and Craftsman-style homes.
Cameron Park/Cameron Village (The Village) – Historic neighborhood centered around Raleigh’s iconic Cameron Village Shopping Center (The District).
Downtown/Warehouse District – This vibrant district is in the center of everything. Here you’ll find an abundance of apartments and condominiums.
